The police have threatened action against those who expose police brutality connected to the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) rally in Male' on October 3.
Photos and videos of police officers who assaulted demonstrators are circulating on social media. Police brutality is being condemned by individuals openly and by anonymous accounts.
In a press release on Sunday, police said they will take legal action against those who try to create hatred on social media and intimidate police officers and their families.
“If any act of intimidation is committed against them, even through social media, the service will take appropriate legal action against such persons,” the police stated.
Police said the strictest action will be taken against anyone who commits any unauthorised act to obstruct the performance of their official duties.
