It has been revealed that the Male' fish market was leased in violation of the Public Finance Act when President Mohamed Muizzu was the mayor of the capital city.
The fish market was leased to FJ Design, a company registered to a man from Laamu Fonadhoo island.
At a city council meeting on August 13, mayor Adam Azim announced that the property was leased against the decision of the bid committee.
The bid committee decided to lease the fish market to FJ Designs for MVR 130,000 per month. However, the agreement was made for MVR 70,000 per month.
“The agreement cannot be continued in this way,” Azim said.
Councillor Mohamed Saif Fathih said decision cannot be made against the bid committee and that the agreement violated the Public Finance Act.
Azim also revealed that the electricity bills of the fish market have not been paid and the outstanding bills amount to more than MVR 437,000.
He said the agreement should not be continued and that matter will be discussed during the Land Committee meeting on next Wednesday.
