Two political directors have been appointed to positions in Haa Dhaal Hirimaradhoo, an island officially designated as uninhabited by a decree issued by President Mohamed Muizzu in December 2025.
Documents obtained by Adhadhu reveal that Aishath Juvairiya and Juvairiya Usman, both residents of Hirimaradhoo, were appointed to political director roles with a monthly salary of MVR 20,000. Juvairiya Usman was appointed on August 27, while Aishath Juvairiya received her appointment on September 6.
Both individuals were appointed to the Youth Ministry. However, their official appointment letters specify Hirimaradhoo as their designated place of work.
It is understood that a third individual from the same island has also been granted a similar position, though their identity has not yet been verified. Sources indicate that all three appointees are active members of the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC).
While every inhabited island in the Maldives typically has a local council, no council elections were held for Hirimaradhoo this year. This follows Muizzu’s decree to dissolve the island's administrative council. Residents of Hirimaradhoo were required to cast their votes for the Hanimaadhoo Island Council during the recent local elections.
With the dissolution of the Hirimaradhoo Council, the responsibility for providing basic services and municipal functions has shifted to the Hanimaadhoo Council. The government has decided to relocate the population of Hirimaradhoo to Hanimaadhoo. According to the 2022 census, Hirimaradhoo has a population of 260 people.
This is not the first instance of such an appointment; the current administration previously appointed a Deputy Minister to oversee Dhaal Uddhoo, an island designated as a picnic destination for the residents of Meedhoo.
