A suspect has been arrested for blackmailing a man and extorting more than MVR 300,000.
Police named the suspect as 32-year-old Mohamed Fawaz Lutfi. He is also accused of selling illegal narcotics.
The case was reported on December 19, 2024, after a man was threatened and blackmailed using nude images and more than MVR 300,000 was extorted from him on various occasions.
Police raided the suspect's apartment in Hulhumale' and found SIM cards, mobile phones, a rubber packet containing drugs and paraphernalia used in drug trafficking.

After the search, police arrested 33-year-old Aminath Fainaz on charges of drug trafficking.
Police said a rubber packet containing suspected drugs was recovered from her clothes.
The suspects were produced before the court and ordered to be remanded in custody for seven days.
Police said they were carrying out separate investigations into the blackmail case and the alleged drug trafficking case.
