The parliament secretariat has defended MPs after statistics shared on social media exposed MPs who were not working.

In a press release, the People's Majlis said some of the work can be seen in statistics, but it is not the only work carried out by MPs.

"The bills and resolutions submitted by MPs so far, issues raised and questions for ministers, information and statistics of the committees will be available. However, this is not the only work done by MPs," it stated.

The press release was issued after social media users slammed MPs who were taking pay without doing any work in the People's Majlis.

It stated that MPs contribute to committee meetings, while all decisions are also made with the contribution of MPs.

The Majlis urged the public not to misuse the statistics on its website, which aims for transparency, to create misleading information.
