No arrests have been made in connection with the brutal murder of 65-year-old Abdul Rahman Adam in Alif Alif Maalhos.
He died on July 13, following serious injuries after he was brutally assaulted while sleeping in his home.
A police forensic and investigation team is operating on the island, but no arrests have been made so far.
Adhadhu journalist Mohamed Shahzan, who is on the island, said the murder weapon is not believed to have been found.
"No arrests have been made so far. Police are conducting heavy operations in different parts of the island. The area near Maahiya [Abdul Rahman's house] has been closed. The weapon is not believed to have been found," he said.
Police have yet to comment on the incident. But they said special attention is being paid to the investigation.
Abdul Rahman's body was transferred to Male' on Sunday for a post-mortem. Police said they were monitoring people entering and leaving the island.
With a population of about 500, the residents of Maalhos believed the island was safe and crime-free.
They usually keep their homes unlocked and reports say Maahiya house was also not locked on the night of the murder.
