Adhadhu has learnt that Abdul Rahman Adam, 65, who died following serious injuries, had been brutally assaulted while sleeping.
Adhadhu understands that his head was attacked, with some residents confirming that a big part of his skull had been crushed.
"He had injuries to the head. It was completely crushed," one person said.
Police said Abdul Rahman was taken to the health centre last night with serious injuries. He died early in the morning while undergoing treatment.
The identity of the assailant is unknown.
"Police received a report at 01:50 am that a man was taken to the health centre for treatment after sustaining serious injuries while he was sleeping. The man died while receiving treatment early in the morning," police said.
Police said an investigative team was currently travelling to the island.
