The Indian teacher, accused of assaulting and injuring a student, has been released from police custody without being summoned to a remand hearing.
Police said the teacher was released on Wednesday morning after he spent 24 hours in custody. Police said he was released without a further remand.
"He was released from custody after taking the necessary documents. He was not taken to court. He was freed because he was cooperating," police said.
The Indian teacher was arrested with a court warrant on Tuesday morning. The injured student from Thaa Kandoodhoo island school was provided medical assistance.
Officials from the Education Ministry did not respond to calls from Adhadhu. But the ministry has made comments defending the teacher to other local media outlets.
The student's father told Adhadhu that the teacher fled after the incident and that doctors have found a fracture in his child's finger bone.
He accused the school management of failing to protect his child and secretly getting the teacher off the island.
