Police have refused to answer questions about whether Raudh Ahmed Zilal, in custody over the unexplained fall of Hawwa Yumnu Rasheed, was given special treatment.
Raudh is being held in Dhoonidhoo custodial centre. He was brought to Male' for investigation purposes on Tuesday. A social media video confirmed that he was returned to Dhoonidhoo in a launch.
People in custody are usually transported via a common boat ferry. Adhadhu questioned the police why Raudh travelled in a separate speedboat. But the police refused to respond.
"The police media cannot answer this question," a spokesperson said.
Police have previously used separate speedboats to transfer high-profile politicians. But former Immigration Controller Shamaan Waheed was transported on the common boat ferry along with other detainees. It is unclear why Raudh was transported separately on a launch.
Raudh, 21, was arrested six days after he left Yumnu, 21, critically injured on the roof of a warehouse after she had an unexplained fall from a ten-storey building in Male'. He also tested positive for cannabis after the incident.
CCTV footage shows Raudh with Yumnu inside the building at the time of the incident. Footage also shows him outside the house and in the neighbourhood immediately after the incident on April 18.
The police have faced immense criticism over their response following Yumnu's fall. There have been accusations of a cover-up because the case involves relatives of wealthy and politically influential figures.
