Attorney General (AG) Ahmed Usham has resigned from the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) committee set up to look into the cases of suspended Supreme Court judges.
The committee includes Usham, President's member Yazmeed Mohamed and lawyers' member Ali Abdul Latheef.
Usham has now been replaced by Civil Service Commission (CSC) President Mohamed Nasih.
The committee was previously looking into the case of Supreme Court Justice Husnu Suood, who resigned on February 4.
But Adhadhu understands that a decision was made at Thursday's committee meeting to investigate suspended Justices Azmiralda Zahir and Mahaz Ali.
In a letter on Thursday, Azmiralda said the investigation was fabricated for political reasons and expressed concern about Usham sitting on the committee.
Usham told Adhadhu he had resigned as it was right for him to sit on the committee despite concerns from Azmiralda.
However, Usham attended the committee meetings to get statements from Criminal Court judges against Azmiralda.
Azmiralda and Mahaz are accused of influencing the Criminal Court to release her husband, Dr. Ismail Latheef.
She has denied the allegations. Adhadhu understands that Mahaz was suspended over a different case.
