The Public Accounts Committee of the People's Majlis moved to a closed session today in connection with the ongoing investigation into employees of the state-owned oil company, Fuel Supply Maldives (FSM), who are suspected of stealing fuel from the company and laundering the money gained from selling the oil.
The agenda for today's Public Finance Committee meeting included discussions with the board of directors of FSM’s parent company, STO.
The meeting was moved to a closed session following a motion by MP for Baarah Constituency, Ibrahim Shujau. The motion was passed unanimously by the members present at the meeting.
Homeland Security Minister Ali Ihusaan revealed the investigation on social media on the night of December 1, stating that the police had already conducted searches at the homes of 10 individuals, as well as two oil barges. During these raids, they recovered electronic equipment and documents related to the case.
“As this investigation progresses, the police will release more details on the case to the public,” he wrote.
Meanwhile, Ismail Suhail, Managing Director of Fuel Supply Maldives, resigned on November 26.
