Police have revealed that 158 kg of drugs were seized in the past eight months.
According to the statistics released today, police conducted 8,554 searches and arrested 712 people from January 1 to August 31 this year.
The detainees include 80 foreigners who have now been handed over to Immigration, police said.
The Drug Enforcement Department conducted a total of 113 operations in the past eight months and seized 158 kg of drugs and 5,252 bottles of alcohol. The street value of the items is estimated at MVR 282 million.
The Drug Enforcement Department received 475 cases in the past eight months, of which 230 have been sent to the Prosecutor General's (PG) Office.
