The US Agency for International Development (USAID) has announced a USD 4.4 million grant to the Maldives.

USAID Administrator Samantha Power announced the grant at the 'Democracy Delivers' event on the sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

Maldives' Permanent Secretary to the United Nations Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed attended the event.

In a press release, USAID said USD 3 million will be provided to strengthen the country’s media literacy programs and USD 1.4 million will be provided to strengthen democracy.

The statement noted that USAID will continue to provide assistance and resources to the Maldives in other areas in the future.

Meanwhile, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu met with Samantha Power earlier in the week and discussed strengthening the relationship between the Maldives and USAID.
