Parliament Speaker and Chairperson of the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) has never been a sincere follower of any political leader, former President Abdulla Yameen has alleged.

Speaking during a meeting at the People's National Front (PNF) office last night, Yameen said Abdul Raheem first campaigned for Jumhooree Party (JP) leader Qasim Ibrahim during the 2013 presidential election. He also said that Abdul Raheem had gone to Malaysia after failing to win the post of Vice President in the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) internal elections.

Yameen claimed that Abdul Raheem returned from Malaysia to Maldives at the request of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.

"That is what Abdul Raheem was like. If [Tourism Minister] Faisal thinks that Abdul Raheem did a lot of political work to help me come to power, then I want to clarify the truth now. Abdul Raheem did not hope for President Yameen's victory in 2013. Abdul Raheem worked with Qasim," he said.

"I have been trying not to talk about such matters. For me, the past is the past. But if we are going to the point of digging up graves and picking out bones, then we must know the facts."

The fact that half of the current government has been given to Abdul Raheem shows the incompetence of President Muizzu, Yameen stated.

He added that Faisal was also not involved in the activities of PPM.

Abdul Raheem has recently been very critical of Yameen. He accused the former President of being behind the 2015 explosion on the presidential launch. He also said Yameen had berated former Housing Minister Muizzu until he cried over a missing lane of the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge.
