Male', Maldives (August 18): Ibrahim Rizan, a player for the Maldives National Cricket team, has successfully completed Level 1 of the ICC Umpire Tutors Course.
Rizan recently completed Level 1 of the ICC Umpire Tutors Course in Malaysia. A passionate cricket enthusiast who began his journey at the junior level, Rizan's desire to deepen his understanding of the game's rules has paved the way for his career as an umpire.
According to the Cricket Board of Maldives (CBM), Rizan has been an active umpire since 2010, having officiated in hundreds of matches across different formats. With his latest qualification, he is now prepared to share his expertise by conducting basic umpire training courses.
He mentioned, "Kumar, who was here in Maldives, played a crucial role in my umpiring journey. He recognized my calm demeanor and decision-making skills, and believed I could succeed as an umpire. His confidence in me inspired me to start this path," Rizan shared.
Rizan believes that he will be able to continue contributing to cricket as an umpire after he finishes his playing career. He began his umpiring career at a very young age, around 17. According to Cricket Board of Maldives (CBM) statistics, Rizan is expected to be one of the youngest umpires in Maldives to officiate across multiple formats in recent years.
