Male' Maldives: CBL Sports capped off a dominant campaign by winning the 2025 Maldives T10 Smash, but the spirit of the final extended far beyond cricket.
In a heartfelt gesture of solidarity, both CBL Sports and Vicenza donated their prize money to support victims of the Ditwah Cyclone in Sri Lanka.
Before play began, players, officials, and spectators observed a solemn minute of silence for those who lost their lives in the disaster.
The champions’ prize of MVR 5,000 and the runners-up award of MVR 2,500 were jointly contributed by the two teams to assist relief efforts.
On the field, CBL Sports delivered a commanding performance to defend their title, defeating Vicenza by 52 runs in the final. Sent in to bat, they posted a formidable 141/4 in 10 overs.
Tharaka Ruwan set the tempo with a fluent 46 off 26 balls (4 fours, 2 sixes), while Kaushal Rodrigo stole the spotlight with a blazing 52 from 21 deliveries, smashing 5 fours and 4 sixes. Piyal Kumara Wijesingha chipped in with a rapid 23 off 9, guiding CBL to an imposing total.
Vicenza struggled in response and finished on 89/5, unable to build the partnerships needed to threaten the target. W. Vihanga (21 off 13) offered a positive start and Gayan Priyankara’s unbeaten 32 off 17, including 4 sixes, added late resistance, but regular wickets stalled their chase.
Tharaka Ruwan completed a stellar all-round performance by destroying Vicenza’s middle order with figures of 4/12 in his 2 overs, sealing CBL’s emphatic victory and earning him the Player of the Final award.
