South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) has dismissed media reports claiming that India could withdraw from the Tecno SAFF Championship 2026, describing the reports as “entirely unfounded and inaccurate.”

In an official statement, SAFF expressed serious concern over reports circulating online regarding India’s alleged withdrawal from the regional tournament, scheduled to take place in Dhaka, Bangladesh, from 5 to 17 November 2026.

SAFF categorically confirmed that India’s participation remains intact and that it has received no communication from the All India Football Federation (AIFF) regarding any withdrawal from the competition.

The federation also reassured its member associations, partners, media representatives, supporters and other stakeholders that preparations for the championship are progressing smoothly and at full pace. All stakeholders are continuing their work to ensure the successful organisation of the region’s premier football competition.

SAFF further confirmed that the tournament will be held as planned, with the participation of the six teams previously announced.

The federation urged stakeholders to rely on official communications from SAFF for accurate information about the championship and to refrain from giving credence to unverified reports.

The statement comes amid uncertainty surrounding India’s November football commitments, with the national team also expected to have international friendly assignments during the same period. However, SAFF’s latest clarification confirms that, as of its statement, India remains part of the planned 2026 championship.
