Former President Abdulla Yameen distanced himself from the current government because of his arrogance and pride, Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdullah has said.

He was responding to claims by Yameen that he left the government because of the repeated mistakes.

In a post on X, Abdul Raheem said Yameen left the government because he could not bear to see someone else in power. He also accused the former President of being hungry for the honour and luxury of power.

Abdul Raheem added that the people know the truth when they see Yameen accompanied by a few people who had failed in their political careers. He advised the former President to not make such statements to deceive the people.

Yameen has moved away from the government and formed his own People's National Front (PNF) party. Former Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed and former Minister Maleeh Jamaal are senior members of PNF.
