The Kaafu Thulusdhoo council called the police today to remove a dog brought to the island by a tourist.
The dog belonged to a tourist from a yacht docked outside Kaafu Himmafushi, police said. When police were informed about the dog's presence in Thulusdhoo, officers were dispatched to take the animal back to the yacht, police said.
A video showing the tourist arriving with the dog has been circulating on social media.
The dog was brought to Thulusdhoo without permission, which was prohibited, Thulusdhoo council vice president Mohamed Shaheem told Adhadhu.
"We also learned of it when we saw the video. It has now been taken out of the island together with police," Shaheem said.
The dog was brought to the Maldives with permission, police said.
