Facebook posts by a Maldivian in violation of the tenets of Islam such as the existence of God have been placed under investigation by the police.
A member of the public brought the matter to the attention of the police through social media X.
According to screenshots of Facebook posts shared by the person, the accused joked about religious principles on apostasy and creation.
"A serious investigation into the user and content of this social media account has been initiated by [Maldives police]," Police Spokesperson Ahmed Shifan said in a post on X.
