The Democrats have withdrawn support for two candidates contesting on the party's ticket.
Democrats President Hassan Latheef told Adhadhu that the party has withdrawn support from Guraidhoo constituency candidate Leela Ibrahim Manik and Thimarafushi constituency candidate Fathmath Zimla.
Support was withdrawn from the candidates after both of them endorsed the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) candidates in their respective constituencies, Hassan said.
"We have to go ahead with the process of taking action over this. What we have to do first of all is to let the public know in these five days before the election that our party has withdrawn support," Hassan said.
Addu Hithadhoo Medhu MP Ahmed Rasheed previously withdrew his candidacy after seeking re-election on a Democrat ticket. He dropped out citing the scheduling of the election for Ramadan.
When the Elections Commission (EC) decided to hold the polls after Ramadan, he filed a lawsuit seeking to contest. But the court did not accept the case.
A total of 368 candidates are contesting for 93 constituencies in the April 21 parliamentary elections, including 130 independent candidates and 22 female and 216 male candidates from seven political parties.
