The President's Office has sent a letter of appointment to the residence of Aminath Nuzha, who was approved by the Parliament as a member of the Broadcasting Commission on February 21.
On Monday morning, Adhadhu raised questions over the delay in appointing Nuzha to the post. President's Office Communications Minister Ibrahim Khaleel assured that the appointment would take place soon.
Nuzha received the letter of appointment after the news was published by Adhadhu.
Contrary to the usual practice of the President's Office, Nuzha was not appointed at a ceremony at the President's Office. Instead, a letter of appointment was sent to her home address at around 3:30 pm signed by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
Members of the Broadcasting Commission established under the Broadcasting Act are not required to take an oath before a judge of a judicial court.
However, in the past, members of the commission had been appointed by the President during a ceremony at the President's Office and they also held official discussions with the President.
The practice was followed during the administrations of former President Mohamed Nasheed, former President Abdulla Yameen and former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
The President's Office did not disclose the reason for the sudden change. Nuzha's nomination for appointment to the Broadcasting Commission was sent during the administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
The Broadcasting Commission currently consists of Commission President Mariyam Waheeda, Aminath Ameena, Ali Yoosuf, Mohamed Fazeen, Shifla Ibrahim and Amjad Waheed.
