President Mohamed Muizzu’s press conference held on June 1, 2026.

Three weeks have passed since President Mohamed Muizzu last held his weekly press conference, despite his promise to meet with the media every Monday if he is in Male'.

Muizzu made the commitment to hold weekly press briefings starting from March during his Presidential Address on February 5.

"To provide information directly to the media, I will meet with journalists every Monday from 10:00 am to 11:00 am as a general rule, starting this March," Muizzu stated.

Despite this promise, the President has failed to meet with the press for the past two weeks. His last press conference was held on June 1.

No reason has been provided for the two-week hiatus in the President's media briefings.

The regular press conferences came to a halt after journalists from Adhadhu questioned Muizzu regarding the "Aisha" documentary which featured an interview with a former President's Office employee who accused Muizzu of sexual misconduct and corruption.

Rather than answering questions about why he made 58 late-night calls to a female employee, Muizzu had an Adhadhu journalist forcibly removed from the President's Office.

Since that incident, the President's Office has barred all Adhadhu journalists from attending government press conferences.
