Shahid slams Saneef following remarks made in Parliament!

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s President Abdulla Shahid has slammed Thinadhoo Dhekunu MP Abdulla Saneef after he criticized Shahid while speaking in Parliament today.

Saneef is a member of the main opposition MDP. Speaking during the debate on the anti-defection bill, Saneef criticized Shahid's appointment as the party's President without an election.

"Appointing people to the post of party's President through such deceitful ways can destroy the rightfulness of the party. That is why the party leaders must strengthen their parties," Saneef said.

He also accused Shahid of making false statements claiming that Saneef was bribed to not attend the Parliament for a vote on postponing the Parliament elections.

"This is reported on a news website created by Abdulla Shahid. That is Miuvan's news website. I condemn, while speaking in the People's Majlis, the reports to defame members of this party. MDP cannot operate like this," he said.

Responding to the allegations, former Foreign Minister Shahid said Saneef's remarks in Parliament were "lies".

“The remarks made by Thinadhoo Dhekunu MP Saneef in today's Parliament session claiming that I have a connection with an online newspaper called Dhiyavaru is false,” Shahid said.a

Saneef “lied” about him today using parliamentary privilege as a cover and it was a “cowardly” act, Shahid added.

"Using the privilege of parliament as a cover to lie and defame people is alien to democracy. It is cowardly," Shahid said.
