Fitr Zakat collection has begun with the start of the fasting month of Ramadan.
The Zakat House of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs has revealed the amounts and ways to pay Zakat this year.
The amount of Fitr Zakat payable:
- Normal rice: MVR 12
- Thailand white rice: MVR 70
- Red rice: MVR 80
- Normal basmati rice: MVR 70
- Better-quality basmati rice: MVR 100
- Best-quality basmati rice: MVR 125
- Normal flour: MVR 10
- Atta flour: MVR 75
Zakat can be paid from six platforms. These include Ooredoo, Dhiraagu, Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB) and FahiPay. Zakat can also be paid through the Bank of Maldives (BML) and the Finance Ministry's Bandeyri portal.
Zakat can be paid online until April 6 which is the 27th day of Ramadan. However, those who wish to pay Zakay physically can do so till the last day of Ramadan.
In addition, arrangements have been made to accept Zakat at the Islamic Ministry Hall starting today from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm until March 28.
The counters of the Ministry will also accept Zakat from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm every day except Friday and Saturday from March 31 to April 9 - the last 10 days of Ramadan.
In the islands, Zakat will be accepted by the island council.
