A ruling party lawmaker tried to get photos and videos to blackmail a young woman, Velidhoo MP Mohamed Abbas has alleged.
In a post on social media X, Abbas said that the MP from the People's National Congress (PNC) contacted him last Ramadan to find out the woman's residence.
Abbas noted that when he replied he did not know and questioned who had requested the information, the MP claimed he was looking into it on "his wife's request."
According to Abbas, the MP also requested his help in procuring photos or videos of the woman for the purpose of blackmailing her.
Abbas alleged that the individual offered to provide all necessary equipment and funding for the task. However, the MP stated he refused the request, informing the individual that it was not something he would do.
Abbas further noted that his wife was present during the communication. He added that he immediately contacted the woman in question to warn her that they were attempting to blackmail her to cover up their own "filthy" actions and to escape the consequences of their conduct.
However, Abbas did not disclose the identity of the woman involved.
