Former President and opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) leader Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that the government continues to lie and deceive the people every day and a lot of work must be carried out to set the government on the right track.
Speaking at a campaign gathering of Naifaru constituency candidate Ahmed Yasir, Solih said the people are dismayed because of the government's deceptions and lies and they now believe that the government lied during the presidential election campaign last year.
"People are dismayed. Many people in Maldives today believe that the things they said then were lies and deception. For that reason, there is a lot of work to be done to set this government on the right track," he said.
The people elected this government because they wanted a better way but the government is not fulfilling the campaign pledges, Solih said.
"I am sure that the people elected the current government with great hope. However, in the past three months, we have not seen the dreams and the promises being fulfilled," he added.
The parliamentary election is scheduled for March 17 to elect MPs for 93 constituencies. MDP has fielded candidates for 90 constituencies.
The ruling People's National Congress (PNC) has fielded candidates for 89 seats while the Democrats are contesting for 39 seats. Jumhooree Party (JP) has 10 candidates while Adhaalath Party (AP) and Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) have four candidates each. Maldives National Party (MNP) has two candidates and 130 candidates are contesting as independents.
