Former Home Minister Imran Abdulla, who is leading the "Maldivian Land for Maldivians" movement against the Rasmalé project, has said that the Male’ City Council will provide its full cooperation to the initiative.

Representatives of the movement visited the City Council today for a formal meeting. Speaking at a press conference following the meeting, Imran noted that since Rasmalé is framed as a project to resolve the housing crisis for Male' residents, the City Council was the primary stakeholder the movement needed to consult.

"It was stated that Rasmalé is a project launched to provide large-scale housing for the residents of Male'. Therefore, regarding our concerns on this matter, the Male’ City Council is the first entity we must meet and engage with in any action we initiate," Imran said.

Imran further stated that the City Council stands in alignment with the spirit and pulse of the Maldivian people and has provided full assurance of its support for the movement.

The national movement, titled "Maldivian Land for Maldivians," was officially launched last Monday to protest the allocation of land reclaimed under the Rasmalé project to a foreign company.

In addition to Imran, the movement includes several Members of Parliament from the opposition MDP, members of the party’s National Council, and senior leadership figures from the opposition PNF.
