A massive fire at "Faiymini," the privately operated petrol shed in Shaviyani Funadhoo, has caused major damage after spreading to adjacent buildings.

Funadhoo Council President Mohamed Adil told Adhadhu that while five warehouses and four houses are located near the petrol shed, three of the warehouses caught fire. He added that the fire in one of the affected houses has since been extinguished.

"There are four houses and five warehouses nearby. Out of those, three warehouses have been destroyed. The roof of one house caught fire, but it has been put out," Adil said.

He further noted that since the island's only petrol station has been completely gutted, the council will consult with the government to find alternative ways to secure fuel supplies.

Funadhoo Council Vice President Adam Hussain informed Adhadhu that although some individuals sustained minor injuries during the incident, no one required hospitalisation or emergency medical treatment.

MNDF personnel and residents are currently working together to contain the blaze. A fire truck from the Funadhoo Airport is also being utilised in the firefighting efforts.

The Faiymini petrol shed is located in the harbour area of Funadhoo, an island with a population of approximately 3,500. Residential houses and warehouses are situated about 60 feet away from the station.

The total destruction of the petrol shed has left Funadhoo facing a fuel crisis. The island relies on the station to power a large number of land vehicles, three commercial fishing vessels, and approximately 50 other sea craft.
