The Elections Commission (EC) has not yet discussed postponing the upcoming parliamentary elections, the commission's Vice President Ismail Habeeb has said.
The parliamentary elections are now scheduled for March 17, which is the seventh day of the fasting month of Ramadan.
But several political parties have raised concerns about the date and have called to hold the polls after Ramadan.
The main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has also decided to amend the General Elections Act to include a provision to prohibit any elections during Ramadan.
Habeeb told Adhadhu today that the commission has not held any discussions to postpone the election.
But he added that the commission would act in accordance with the law, if it is amended to ban polls during Ramadan.
