MP-elect for Kurendhoo Shamin Habeeb signed for the People's National Congress (PNC) on Sunday.
Shamin won the Kurendhoo seat after contesting as an independent. He handed over the PNC membership form to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu after joining the ruling party.
With Shamin's addition, the number of PNC MPs in Parliament rises to 74.
Shamin won the Kurendhoo constituency after competing against the government's candidate and two MPs from the 19th People's Majlis.
The supermajority of Parliament secured by the government includes 66 candidates elected on PNC tickets, eight MPs-elect who joined the party after winning seats as independent candidates, leaders of political parties aligned with the government and Mohamed Abbas, who was elected to the Velidhoo constituency on a Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) ticket.
The number of MPs who would vote with the government's line in Parliament has now risen to 78, a larger majority than the Maldivian Democratic Party's (MDP) supermajority in the previous Majlis.
The MPs-elect are due to be sworn in on May 28.
