Maldives Police Service has cautioned the public about the circulation of counterfeit US dollar notes.
Police said a suspect had been arrested and investigations are underway over reports that transactions had been carried out using counterfeit notes of USD 50, USD 100 and USD 20.
The suspect is a 57-year-old Maldivian man, the police revealed. He was remanded in custody for 15 days.
Police have advised people to be more cautious and to verify the authenticity of dollars before transactions.
