Massive theft during transfer of property between two ministries!

Police have begun investigations after valuables including a 65-inch TV "went missing" during the transfer of property between two ministries.

The former Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment was split into the Ministry of Sports, Fitness and Recreation and the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Information and Arts by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu who was sworn in on November 17.

Following the change, some sections and staff of the former Youth Ministry were divided between the two new ministries. Sources told Adhadhu that valuables went missing during the transfer of properties.

The Ministry of Sports, Fitness and Recreation filed a complaint with the Maldives Police Service on December 20.

Missing items

  • Two CPUs in the IT room
  • Two monitors in the server room
  • Four monitors in front of the prayer room
  • 65-inch TV in the minister's room

After the theft, the CCTV footage of the ministry was also deleted, a source told Adhadhu. The footage is believed to have been deleted on November 26 or 27.

A senior police officer told Adhadhu that the case is being investigated. However, he did not give any further details.
