The Maldives and India have discussed strengthening defense cooperation between the countries.
Following a meeting between Defense Minister Mohamed Gassan Maumoon and Indian Ambassador Munu Mahawar, the Indian High Commission said the pair engaged in "warm and productive" talks.
Discussions focused on "further strengthening bilateral defence and security partnership," the High Commission said.
After Gassan met Mahawar, the Defense Ministry said the High Commissioner paid a courtesy call on the minister and that the pair discussed "existing defence cooperation between the two countries."
The discussions on defense and security cooperation come after the government said India has agreed to take back soldiers from the Maldives.
Indian soldiers are based in the Maldives under a defense agreement to operate helicopters and a Dornier aircraft donated by India.
