An infant abandoned at birth in Alif Dhaal Dhigurah was found in a bag at the island's wasteyard.
The baby was found dead, the police said, citing doctors who examined the newborn.
The incident was reported at 9:20 am this morning, the police said in a message sent to the media. A police team is now active on the island, it added.
The body was found by a foreign worker of the island's Waste Management Center, Ibrahim Usman, Dhigurah council president, told Adhadhu. The site has since been cordoned off for the police investigation, he said.
The island's garbage dump is located away from residential neighborhoods.
