Stronger security measures are being placed in connection with a fight between two groups in Addu Hithadhoo last night, the police have said.
Efforts are underway to tighten security in Male' and Addu cities, the police said in a statement.
Police teams have been dispatched from Male' to Addu as part of the measures, it added.
A search is also underway for suspects in the gang violence, the police said.
A 30-year-old man who was injured in the violence last night is undergoing treatment at the Addu Equatorial Hospital. His condition is serious, the police said, citing the hospital.
The groups that clashed last night were both armed with knives and sharp objects, Adhadhu has learned. The man injured in the violence sustained a deep cut on his forehead along with serious wounds on other parts of his body.
The investigation of the gang violence is ongoing, the police media official said.
