Donations to Gaza Emergency Relief Fund over MVR 24 million

Maldivians have donated MVR 24 million to the Gaza Emergency Relief Fund set up by the International Aid Campaign (IAC) to help the injured and displaced people of Gaza.

IAC said on Saturday that the total donations had reached MVR 23,987,108 in the Dhivehi Rufiyaa account and USD 13,023 in the dollar account.

In a post on X, IAC thanked the people of Maldives for their continued support of the people of Gaza. IAC is already working with several international and Palestinian organizations operating in Gaza to provide assistance.

Aid from various international organizations and countries has been stuck at the Rafah border as Israel refuses to allow the vehicles to enter the Gaza Strip. About 100 aid vehicles have entered Gaza since October 7.

The United Nations warned of a looming “unprecedented avalanche of human suffering” inside the Gaza Strip, following weeks of relentless bombing by Israel, while the General Assembly pushed for an “immediate humanitarian truce”.

Israel launched its bombardment of Gaza after Palestinian fighters stormed across the fence on October 7, killing 1,400 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping over 220 others, according to Israeli officials.

The Gaza health ministry said Israeli strikes on Gaza had now killed over 8,000 people, more than 3,000 of them children.
