A resolution calling to ban the entry of Israeli tourists into the Maldives has been submitted to the parliament.
Villingili MP Saud Hussein proposed the resolution to ban Israeli tourists and impose a ban on the import of Israeli goods.
His proposal comes as the Israeli forces bomb Gaza, killing over 1,900 people, mostly children and women.
The resolution also calls on the Maldives government to cut all ties with Israel and calls on Israeli forces to withdraw from occupied Palestinian territories.
"In such a situation, it is important to express the people's views in the parliament. We have to show that the Maldivian people condemn Israeli actions. That is why I have moved the resolution calling for sanctions against Israel," Saud said.
Nation wide events were held on Friday to show solidarity with Palestine, with thousands of people marching in the capital Male'.
