Special activities in support of Palestine to protest against Israeli atrocities are due to begin nationwide in the Maldives on Friday.

An initiative of the International Aid Campaign (IAC) in collaboration with associations and groups from various regions, the activities are due to begin at 11 am on Friday with fund boxes to be placed outside all mosques in the Male’ area.

“We call to carry out these activities in the same manner all across the country,” IAC Vice Chairman Adam Naif said.

A special gathering of women will take place at the artificial beach in Male’ on Friday evening, he said. IAC urges women who wish to participate to come with Palestinian and Maldivian flags, Naif said.

Concurrently in partnership with the Racing Association, a fundraising event with cars and motorcycles will also take place on Friday evening at the Central Park in Hulhumale’, he said, appealing for as many people as possible to join the activity.

A silent protest in defense of Palestine is being planned for Saturday night, Naif said. The time and place are yet to be determined and will be announced later, he added.

In addition to the activities, a telethon for Palestine with all local media and a mass demonstration are also being planned, he said.

As the activities are planned to include children, Naif advised participants to conduct themselves properly.

“I know everyone will be very emotional and that their blood will be boiling. But I strongly urge everyone to uphold behavioural standards,” Naif said.

The activities are being planned with the cooperation and assistance of many groups and people, whose names and logos will be revealed in the coming days, Naif said.
