President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has claimed that his coalition partners have no hidden agendas for personal gains.
Solih is campaigning for re-election with Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) and Adhaalath Party (AP) as coalition partners.
Speaking during a campaign rally in Noonu Kudafari, President Solih said his allies have no interest in acquiring an island or lagoon or demands concerning money that is owed to the state.
Solih praised his running mate Mohamed Aslam and the leader of MDA Ahmed Siyam Mohamed for their long service.
"Siyam joined us after winning four parliamentary elections. My running mate Mohamed Aslam also won four times. I have come here after winning five parliamentary elections and a presidential election," he said.
He claimed that experienced politicians will easily understand the feelings and needs of the people.
“There is no one in this coalition who will ask for an island or a lagoon or request for relief in money owed to the state," Solih added.
The sole purpose of the coalition is to serve the people and the aim is to complete the projects underway and launch more development, he stressed.
Solih's remarks came after the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) allowed the leasing of Kaafu Vaavehdhi lagoon by Villa Group.
The anti-corruption watchdog earlier halted the lease of the lagoon by presidential candidate Qasim Ibrahim's company.
At the time, Qasim accused the government of asking the ACC to stop the sale in order to influence the upcoming presidential election.
ACC declined to reveal any information connected to the investigation over Vaavehdhi lagoon's planned leasing.
The lagoon has now been sold to Estithmar Holdings.
Vaavehdhi was among the islands and lagoons taken back from Villa during former President Abdulla Yameen's government, which included Kaafu Bolidhiffaru, Raa Maaneffushi, Gaaf Dhaal Gazeera and Kaafu Maadhiggaru lagoon.
The Civil Court ruled in favor of Villa after the company challenged the lease terminations. While the High Court ruled in favor of the government, Villa regained the islands and lagoons after the Supreme Court ruled that the lease agreement terminations were unlawful.
