A man has been arrested for allegedly threatening parliament's deputy speaker Eva Abdulla on Twitter by using a picture of her son.

Police did not reveal the identity of the suspect.

The threat was tweeted on June 19, 2023 from an account named 'Hama Esoru'. In a response tweeted on July 20, 2023, Eva said she has never before reported ordinary "attacks" on her because she is a politician.

She described the tweet as harassment and requested a serious investigation to protect her child's safety.

In a message sent to Adhadhu on Tuesday night, Eva said in addition to the tweet, the suspect had stalked her home and her mother's home and sent threatening messages.

The suspect will be taken to court early Wednesday for a decision on his remand.
