Four arrested in drug busts

Four suspects have been taken into custody in police operations conducted on three islands.

The operations were carried out in Laamu Gan, Addu City Hulhumeedhoo and Thaa Dhiyamiligi, according to the police.

The operation in Laamu atoll was conducted based on intelligence information about an attempt to smuggle drugs into Laamu Dhabidhoo, the police said.

In the operation on July 14, rubber packets containing drugs were found when a 25-year-old suspect and a 36-year-old suspect were searched at the Gan harbor.

When they were taken to court for extension of detention, the Gan magistrate court remanded the 25-year-old suspect to 15 days and the 36-year-old suspect to five days in custody.

In a separate operation conducted in Gan on July 12, 10 rubber packets with suspected narcotics were found on the island's roads.

The operation in Addu City was based on intelligence information about drug trafficking and peddling in Hulhumeedhoo.

A 56-year-old suspect and 65-year-old suspect were arrested in the operation.

A piece of cellophane along with three large rubber packets with drugs were found from a house on the island that was searched with a court warrant on July 13.

The Hulhumeedhoo magistrate court remanded the suspects to 15 days in custody.

A drug operation based on intelligence information was also conducted in Thaa Dhiyamiligi on July 13.

A box that was unloaded from a speedboat that arrived in Dhiyamigili was searched and two juice petty packets and a can containing drugs were found inside. Two suspects were arrested.
