The Democrats party formed by supporters of parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed who left the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has started work on a manifesto.

A meeting will be held in Fuvahmulah tonight to seek public opinion on preparing the manifesto, the party said.

According to The Democrats, the party's founder Hassan Latheef will lead the meeting. A small neighborhood rally will also be held in Fuvahmulah tomorrow night, the party said.

The Democrats began work on a manifesto before the inaugural congress on forming the party. The Elections Commission authorized the inaugural meeting to take place next Sunday.

The Democrats was formed by senior members of the 'Fikuregge Dhirun' faction led by Speaker Mohamed Nasheed after he lost the MDP's presidential primary. However, it is unclear whether Nasheed will contest in the next presidential election on the ticket of the new party.
