The US government and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) have donated forensic equipment to the Maldives Police Service.
Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen accepted the donation. Police said the donation will enhance their forensic and investigative capabilities.
The donation includes FRED systems and RAMAN Spectroscopic devices.
FRED stands for Forensic Recovery of Evidence Device. They are very powerful workstations that serve to secure, save and analyse data from hard drives and other media carriers.
Raman spectroscopic devices are used for identifying illicit drugs, explosives, hazardous materials, and for forensic analysis like verifying substances and identifying trace evidence at crime scenes.
