Suspected pedophile Sunny Umar was summoned to his apartment yesterday (January 5) because police were searching for a "hidden" phone and laptop, Adhadhu has learnt.
According to the court order, police searched the apartment because Sunny did not have the iPhone 12 he had when he was first arrested. He had a Xiaomi phone during his second arrest.
Sunny was first arrested and released and police believe he hid the iPhone 12 to withhold evidence.
In addition to the phone, the court order also included the recovery of a laptop because he allegedly used it to show obscene videos to a child.
Police searched the third floor apartment of Henveiru Citrus under the court order. The building owners and tenants expressed anger when police tried to enter the premises with Sunny.
Sunny, who was running tourism-related businesses, fled the country after the case surfaced and was arrested at the airport upon his return on December 1, 2024.
But he was released on the condition that he would cooperate with the investigation and was re-arrested on December 2 while attempting to flee the country again.
A family member of the victims told Adhadhu that Sunny had been sexually abusing the children for 10 years. Some of the children have been severely affected mentally.
