A 31-year-old man who was burned in a fire in Alif Alif Rasdhoo island has been taken to India for further treatment.

Rasdhoo island councilor Khadeeja Muna confirmed that he was taken to India for further treatment.

The man and his 31-year-old wife were also burned in the fire. The woman died on March 31 while being treated in the ICU of the IGMH.

The man was removed from the ventilator on April 6, despite remaining in serious condition.

Rasdhoo council President Mohamed Nahid said the fire had happened in the couple's room on March 24 and that no one else was injured.

Their five-year-old child was not in the room at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire is unknown. Police have not yet commented on the incident.
