The Secretary General of Alif Alif atoll council has been suspended for posting a joke about President Mohamed Muizzu on Facebook.

Mohamed Shafeeq was suspended on Monday. He wrote on Facebook that Muizzu loves to cut ribbons and school girls with ribbons must be cautious when he visits Rasdhoo.

He had also made numerous posts criticizing Muizzu and his government.

The Civil Service Commission (CSC) suspended Shafeeq for allegedly violating the CSC laws, rules and code of conduct.

He was suspended from office from August 18 to September 19 with pay.
