Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has condemned the black oil attack on opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) activist Mariyam Zubair (Mandhy).

"This cowardly act was done to silence the people and intimidate everyone who criticizes the government's poor policies," Solih said in a post on X.

He added that the MDP will not be shaken by intimidation and that the party will continue its peaceful political activities.

Mandhy said a group of men wearing helmets on motorcycles doused her with used engine oil at around 1:07 am on Monday while she was returning home after attending the MDP's nightly protest.

Meanwhile, the police have launched a criminal investigation against her for speaking about a member of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's family during a rally.
