The Criminal Court has ordered a seven-day remand for a man arrested for stealing young coconuts from the palms at Male' City's Rasfannu beach.

The suspect has been identified as 56-year-old Abdulla Latheef, a native of Hithadhoo, Addu City. He was taken into custody on charges of theft.

Following his arrest for harvesting the coconuts from the Rasfannu area, Latheef claimed in court that he was unaware that picking coconuts from those trees was prohibited.

According to the court order, Latheef has a prior criminal record and has been detained for various offences in the past.

The court decided to remand him for seven days, citing that his release could pose a potential threat to public safety.

Rasfannu is a public space managed by the Male' City Council; therefore, all trees and produce within the area are considered council property.
