The Criminal Court has ordered a man to pay a fine of MVR 26,000 for unauthorised entry into Hulhumalé Prison.
The verdict, delivered last Sunday, was issued against Azim Mohamed. The state charged him with trespassing into the Hulhumalé detention facility without permission on June 20, 2026.
Responding to the charges, Azim entered a guilty plea. He testified in court that his confession was made voluntarily, without any coercion or undue influence.
The sentence for the offence was four months and 13 days of imprisonment. However, the court granted a reduction in the penalty due to his confession and the 11 days he had already spent in custody during the investigation.
The Criminal Court commuted the prison sentence to a fine of MVR 26,000. Azim has been ordered to settle the payment with the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) within the next six months.
